Philanthropy
We are proud to say that we are the first sorority in the Bay Area to be a weekly contributer to the Ronald McDonald House in San Francisco.
Each weekend during the school year, we have women from our chapter volunteer to go to the Ronald McDonald House. These volunteers help out in the playroom, supply meals or just help clean the house.
Our chapter has also done things such as collecting pop tabs as another way to raise money to donate and we have collected spare change in our meetings to help buy some of the supplies for the house? new playroom.
The Ronald McDonald House in San Francisco was in dire need to update its playroom, and decided to make it a jungle theme and to dedicate it to the Theta Gamma chapter of Alpha Delta Pi for all of the help we have provided.
Alpha Delta Pi has been committed to values of unselfish service to mankind since our creating in 1851. Today our chapter is continually committed to the Ronald McDonald House and its causes.
What is Ronald McDonald House?
Ronald McDonald Houses are located throughout the world to provide a "home away from home" for children receiving medical treatment,
and for their families. For those families unable to pay full price, the Ronald Mcdonald House will supplement the nominal cost of staying there.
The Ronald McDonald Houses have been the international philanthropy of Alpha Delta Pi since 1979.
1st Annual Casino Night and Poker Tournament
Our 1st Annual Casino Night and Poker Tournament Philanthropy event was held on Friday May 2nd at Sonoma State.
We raised over $1100 and are still hoping for a few more donations from other sororities and fraternities on campus.
We had much support from our community members in holding a philanthropy event to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
100% of the money we raised from our raffle and donations will be going to support our local Ronald McDonald House in San Francisco.
The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc. is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children.
The very first RMH opened in 1974 in Philadelphia, with the help of the NFL? Philadelphia Eagles.
The goal of the RMH is to provide a home away from home to families of seriously ill children.
Families are asked to contribute $10 per night, but no one is ever turned down due to an inability to pay.
RMH Charities has 3 core programs that help families in need: Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco
The RMH of SF was inspired by a baby named Simon Nagel Gold. After 4 weeks of struggling for life in the intensive care nursery, he died from a cardiac condition. As a tribute to their son, Simon? parents worked to open the RMH of SF to help ease the burdens of families with similar circumstances.
RMH of SF is the 119th of 258 RMH in 28 countries around the world.
The RMH in San Francisco opened in 1989. Since they have opened they have provided housing to more than 3,500 families.
The RMH of SF helps families with seriously ill children so they can have a comfortable room and bed, kitchen and laundry facilities, and a play area. They can draw hope and strength from late night conversations over a hot cup of coffee, sharing with other residents their experiences that may be difficult for family and friends back home to fully understand.
The average stay at the RMH is 15 nights: 20% of families need to stay 30 days or longer.
56% of patients whose families are served have not reached their first birthday.
How do we give back???
Alpha Delta Pi chapters across the country support their nearby Ronald McDonald House.
We are fortunate to have a hands on philanthropy which we can physically visit and donate our time. Sisters visit the RMH in San Francisco and prepare meals for the guests, play with the children, decorate for holidays, and help clean the house
We raise money through our annual poker tournament and doing fundraisers through local restaurants.
We also collect pop tabs from cans that can be recycled. The money from one house filled with pop tabs can house a family for one week.
